Application: Industrial Applications | Application Details: Process / Wastewater Treatment

Product Group: Submersible Pumps

Product: UNIQA Series | Model: ZUG V

Situation

With an annual production capacity of 60 million square meters and 45 factories covering 500,000 square meters of enclosed space, Kale is one of the world's largest ceramics companies producing in a single location.
The group was experiencing serious operational problems due to rapidly wearing equipment used in pumping wastewater from ceramic processing operations.
Because the fluids transported in this process contained highly abrasive components, it was essential to use robust pumps capable of handling fluids containing highly abrasive residues and solids, such as sliding slurry and water from ceramic tile cutting operations.

This situation highlighted the need for robust and reliable pump technology.

Solution

First, the most suitable pump solutions were determined, and the UNIQA series pumps with vortex impellers, which minimize wear on hydraulic components and provide completely free passage, were chosen.
Each UNIQA pump is developed with a modular design concept to suit its application and is equipped with IE3 premium class motors to ensure high energy efficiency.
The inner surface of the pump housing and the impeller were reinforced with Molib-tech coating.

Cold-worked molybdenum carbide coating significantly increased surface hardness compared to cast iron, providing superior resistance to abrasive wastewater sludge and ceramic parts.

Benefits

  • The installation of UNIQA pumps improved the plant's energy efficiency and operational reliability.
  • Molib-tech® coatings have made hydraulic components more resistant to the effects of corrosive fluids.
  • Production downtime due to breakdowns has been significantly reduced and is now limited to planned maintenance processes suitable for heavy-duty applications.
  • Production processes were optimized, and energy resources were used more efficiently.

As of today, the system established for removing shear slurry and wastewater resulting from ceramic processing operations is operating at full capacity, and the plant operators are fully satisfied with this investment.
