Situation
The leading company in the sector is an international group of companies that transforms traditional cheese into an innovative product concept. The need arose to replace the EPDM diffusers in the wastewater treatment plant at the company's factory in Çorlu/Tekirdağ, which had become deformed over time.
Arpon Solution
The company's Çorlu factory, being a producer of cheese and similar products, has a significant level of aggressiveness and variability in the wastewater entering the system. This is largely due to the caustic and nitric acid used in cleaning the hygienic systems. Furthermore, the fatty acids produced by cheese and its derivatives cause the EPDM material used in the diffusers in the aeration and pre-equalization tanks to deform and burst very quickly. Additionally, the coating of the diffuser surface by cheese waste prevents sufficient oxygen transfer. As a further consequence, energy consumption in the blowers increases significantly.
Problems encountered after installing SSI brand PTFE (Teflon) coated 9" diffusers in September 2016 have been observed to disappear. In particular, diffuser failures that frequently resulted in bursts and deformations have been eliminated. Another advantage is that the smooth Teflon surfaces of SSI diffusers prevent particle accumulation on the diffuser surface.
Result
As a natural consequence of these changes, energy consumption has been significantly reduced in a very short time. In the system, which uses only 120 SSI PTFE diffusers, while previously 2 blowers (2x11 kW) met the oxygen requirement, now only 1 blower is sufficient. Previously, 7.4 kWh of electricity was consumed to produce 1 m³/h of oxygen; now, only 3.4 kWh is consumed.
